The United States was the solar energy pioneer, and today produces more than half of all solar energy in the world.
Among the largest solar energy farms is the SEGS thermal plant in California. SEGS is the largest and oldest solar plant in the country, with a capacity to produce 354 megawatts of electricity. The SEGS facility is divided into 9 plants covering 1,600 acres at different locations in the Mojave Desert.

In the USA a majority of the Wind Farms were concentrated in California up until recently, and then as the trend became more popular more farmers got into the wind harvesting business. A lot of the farmers are actually paid by a third party, someone who leases the land from the farmer for a certain price.
